Autoflaneur is a series of bots roaming selected areas via Google StreetView. They follow Google’s abstract representation of space, randomly changing direction at each intersection. The work connects critical spatial practice (such as algorithmic walks and situationist dérive) to the representation of space and its aesthetic provided by platform capitalism. Walking through the planned city of Victoria, it reflects on planned society as manifested by this socialist utopian city and the contemporary reemergence of the planned economy as Silicon Valley’s “big data nation.”
